Preparing for common difficulties

Difficulty 1:

Debt tends to plague most folks, and is often the first real world initiation for couples into the ways newly shared financial tension and unfamiliar habits can sour a fantastic relationship. This is one of the main stated reasons for couples therapy nationwide.

This mortgage reduction calculator can be of considerable help, in one way at least, in that it can illustrate the value of early payments to principle to remove interest attached to later payments. It is beyond essential to make sure when you enter new debt arrangements that it is possible to pay to principle without a penalty. If you'd like financial advice from a sympathetic professional, please email me using any of the links on this site and I'll refer you to my personal financial advisor. I don't make any money this way. She's is simply good at helping people get real about money.

Psychologically based resources

Enneagram Test - The word “ennea” is Greek for nine and “gram” means a figure or something drawn. Hence, the Enneagram is a diagram or star with nine points representing the nine personality patterns. Each of these nine patterns is based on an explicit set of perceptual filters that determine our worldview. Underneath each of the nine patterns is a basic proposition or belief about what you need in life for survival and satisfaction.

Another good Enneagram source

Myers-Briggs indicator -

The Myers-Briggs is related to work by Carl Jung, and has 16 distinct, but interrelated, types. These types are based on four main variables:

  • introvert/extrovert (I/E)
  • sensor/intuitive (S/N)
  • feeling/thinking (F/T)
  • judger/perceiver (J/P)
Most people lean toward one or the other of each of these pairs; for instance, you might be more of an extrovert than introvert. However, even if you do, you will still have some characteristics of an introvert. There are 16 possible combinations of these four sets of traits.

A Window on: Why do I believe and say one thing and then do another?
"Why on earth should we want to measure our own attitudes toward dichotomies when we already know how we feel about them? Well, because sometimes we are wrong about what we think. And as Mathilda White Riley pointed out long ago in a methods text, what we think about something does not measure what we will do about it. Responding to a stimulus is doing something. It may point out a discrepancy between what we say and what we do. Not unusual, actually."
